Haverrhill-Pentucket-North Andover (HPNA) girls’ hockey team wrapped up a historic regular season, going unbeaten with an 18-0-2 record. The team pulled out a thrilling 3-2 victory over defending state champions Methuen-Tewksbury last week to claim MVC-DCL League Championship. HPNA is the No. 1 seed in the MIAA Division 1 State Tournament. The Hillies will host No. 32 Hingham on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM in the preliminary round.
The boys’ basketball team had its best regular season in 15 years, finishing with a 14-6 record. The Hillies finished as co-champions in the Merrimack Valley Conference. They are the No. 9 seed in the MIAA Division 1 North Tournament. The Hillies will travel to No. 8 Central Catholic for a 7:00 PM tipoff on Tuesday night.
The gymnastics team qualified for the MIAA Sectional Tournament for a second straight year. The Hillies placed sixth in the sectional meet which was held at Algonquin Regional High School this past Saturday. They posted a score of 136.9, a huge improvement from last year. Maren Eramo was selected to represent team Massachusetts at the 2020 Senior National Showcase in Ft. Myers, FL.
The Hillie wrestlers had a great showing at the MIAA Division 1 State Tournament. Jake Nicolosi and Steven Wise placed third, Ben Davoli and Jay Levy were fourth and Edgar Felicano placed fifth. By finishing in the top six, all five wrestlers have advanced to the MIAA All-State Tournament this Friday and Saturday at Methuen High School.
The girls’ basketball team is going back to the playoffs for a second straight season. The Hillies won four of their last five MVC games to qualify for the MIAA Division 1 North Tournament. They are the No. 15 seed and will travel to No. 2 Chelmsford on Tuesday night for a 7:00 PM game.
The indoor track seasons wrapped up with several student-athletes posting personal best times at the MIAA All-State Championship held at the Reggie Lewis Center. Hayden Makarow placed 9th in the 600 meter run and Finleigh Simonds was 10th in the one mile run. Simonds teamed with Delani Dorsey, Gabby DeRoche, and Ariann LeCours for a 13th place finish in the 4x800 meter relay.
Two student-athletes represented Haverhill at the MIAA Division 1 State Championship swim meet on February 16. Daniel McLaughlin placed third in the 100 yard backstroke and was eighth in the 50 yard freestyle. Casey Connors placed 17th in the 200 yard freestyle.
