It has been quite a run by the Hillie girls soccer team over the past few weeks. On Saturday, the Hillies defeated Central Catholic 2-1 for their first win over the Red Raiders since 2007. The win also extended their unbeaten streak to eight games, having gone 6-0-2 since September 22. The Hillies are now 8-3-3 heading into a big game against Tewksbury at home Tuesday night. The Hillies will host Central Catholic in the season finale at Trinity Stadium on Monday night at 7:30 PM.
The boys’ soccer team has also been playing well and recently put together a four-game unbeaten streak, which included wins over Methuen and Central Catholic. The squad is 5-9-1, posting its highest win total since 2015. The Hillies will need to win out and hope for some help to qualify for the post-season. They travel to Methuen on Tuesday night and will close out the year at home against Gloucester on Monday at 6:00 PM.
It came down to the final relay and the Hillies pulled it out, winning the race to edge Chelmsford 92-91 last Friday. It was the fourth straight win for the girls swim team, which boasts a 7-1 record. The Hillies will host Central Catholic in the final regular season meet on Friday afternoon.
The golf team had a strong finish to the season. It took a 13-7 victory in the final match of the year for the Hillies to qualify for the MIAA playoffs. The Hillies finished the year with a 7-7-1 record, which included an impressive tie with unbeaten North Andover. On Monday, the team travelled to Turner Hill in Ipswich for the MIAA Division 1 North Tournament. The Hillies shot 323 as a team and Troy Donahue shot the low round for the team with a 78.
The girls’ volleyball team put together back-to-back wins over Billerica to secure a spot in the MIAA Playoffs. The Hillies are now 10-5 with five matches remaining. They close out the regular season at home on Monday night when they host Weston.
Keith May placed 9th out of 85 runners in the Catholic Memorial Invitational at Franklin Park on Saturday, leading the Hillies to an eighth place finish. Gabby DeRoche led the way on the girls’ side with a 37th place finish out of 132 runners. Next up for both teams will be the MVC Championship this Saturday at Chelmsford.
The Hillie football team makes its return to the MIAA playoffs this week. The Hillies fell to Central Catholic in the final regular season game on Friday night to drop to 4-3. They are the No. 7 seed in the Division 1 North Tournament and will travel to St. John’s Prep on Friday night. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
The crew teams will close out the 2018 season at the MPSRA state championships this weekend. The regatta will be held in Lowell on Sunday afternoon.
The field hockey team is finishing up the season with four straight away games. The final game will be at Lowell on Saturday afternoon.
