The Hillie fall sports seasons are in full swing! We have 430 student-athletes participating on 21 different teams and many kicked off their seasons last week.
The soccer teams have been the busiest thus far with three games under their belts. The girls’ soccer team dominated the opener against Chelmsford but could not find the back of the net and came away with a 0-0 tie. They then downed Lawrence 9-0 before falling to Swampscott 2-1. The Hillies travel to Methuen Tuesday and will host Central Catholic on Thursday night at Trinity Stadium.
The boys’ soccer team dropped its first two games, losing to Chelmsford and Central Catholic. The Hillies bounced back on Saturday night with a 3-1 victory over Gloucester. Haverhill will face Andover at home on Tuesday night then will travel to Tewksbury on Thursday afternoon.
The volleyball team opened the season with a convincing 3-0 win over Pope John XXIII. The team face Methuen on the road Wednesday before its home opener on Friday night against Chelmsford.
The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in the Clipper Relays at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport on Saturday. The top relay team for each program finished in the top 25. The teams will host Lowell on Wednesday for their first dual meet. They will then compete in an MVC Invitational event this Saturday at Tewksbury High School.
The golf team played a strong first match but was edged by Central Catholic at Bradford Country Club last Wednesday. The Hillies return to action on Wednesday when they host Chelmsford.
The football team ran into power St. John’s Prep on the road for the opener. The Hillies fell to the Eagles by a score of 43-14. They will look to rebound in its first Merrimack Valley Conference game of the season this Friday night. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 PM at Chelmsford High School.
The girls’ swim & dive team start the season off this Tuesday afternoon. The Hillies will host Billerica at the Charles C. White Pool at 3:30 PM.
The field hockey team will be in action on Wednesday afternoon. Under the direction of first-year head coach Emma Panto, the Hillies will face Dracut on the road.
